The building is over one hundred and twenty years old but, despite its age, still in excellent condition and, for anyone interested in an original Apothecary, a bargain at only one hundred and fifty thousand Euro. It comes with three thousand square feet of land, an ideal location for a new business in one of the better suburbs, Hemelingen in Bremen, Germany. Offers are being accepted from anyone with enough ready cash, a good business plan and the right mentality for such an old building with several special problems.
The main problem is that the building is protected as a Listed Building and can only be renovated according to strict laws, which involves a good deal of further investment. The second problem is the contents. The complete Apothecary is still there, and is also classified. All changes to the shop area of the building, which consists of an apartment on the second floor, have to be approved by the authorities.
Built in about 1889, the building became property of the city of Bremen when the original owner died fifteen years ago, and has remained unoccupied ever since. While there is public finance available for renovations, and for a change in use, the possibilities remain very limited. The offer for sale lists as possible future uses restaurant, shop or office complex. Not listed is the possibility of using the building according to its original intentions as an Apothecary, chemist or drug store since, with modern standards also legally set, the built-in and protected furnishing doesn’t offer the necessary security expected for establishments selling drugs or medication.
